Mental Health First Aid Training
Approximately 20% of Australian adults experience a common mental illness each year. Completing a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Course will help you develop the skills to support a friend, family member or co-worker. Having Mental Health First Aid skills means that you can assist someone developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis and make a real difference to your community. The course teaches participants how to use an evidence-based action plan to assist people who are: developing a mental health problem, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use problems, and eating disorders (in youth course only), experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem, or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves. This course does not form part of a Vocational Education Qualification. Accreditation is provided by Mental Health First Aid Australia (https://www.mhfa.com.au/)
Benefits of MHFA Training:
MHFA training is associated with improved knowledge of mental illness, their treatments and appropriate first aid strategies, as well as confidence in providing first aid to individuals with mental illness. Research has shown that MHFA training is associated with:
