HLTAID011 (Previously HLTAID003) PROVIDE FIRST AID

First Aid Course with CPR (Previously known as senior first aid, level 2 first aid, or apply first aid). To book this course, please scroll to the bottom page and select the venue of your choice to book in.

This course is for anyone who may be required to provide first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. This course allows you develop the skills on how to provide first aid, CPR, basic emergency life support, manage a casualty and use a defibrillator until the arrival of medical or other assistance. Our first aid course includes the content of provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (HLTAID009) and provide basic emergency life support (HLTAID010).

Certification issued:

On successful completion of the course, students are awarded a statement of attainment in:

  • Provide First Aid (HLTAID011)
  • Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009)
  • Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (HLTAID010)

Statement of attainments are issued on the day of the course to learners found competent. (Same day certificate)

Entry Requirements:

Learners will be required to pass a basic language, literacy, numeracy and digital test before confirmation of enrolment or immediately prior to commencing the training. Learners must also be able to do CPR on the floor, including kneeling down and performing chest compressions. Those completing the express version will need access to a computer or tablet to complete the online course. Internet access is required.

Course Duration:

There are four options for the delivery of this unit.

  • Option One: REFRESHER (Online plus Face to Face)

    • This takes approximately 2 to 3 hours for the practical assessment
    • depending on class size. Online component needs to be completed
    • prior to attendance. Learners have previously taken part in first
    • aid and requires refresher training. Learners need to be computer
    • literate to be able to do the online course.
  • Option Two: EXPRESS Delivery (Online plus Face to Face)

    • This takes 3.5 to 4 hours in class. Learners will complete online
    • course prior to coming to class face to face to complete the
    • remainder of the assessment which is the practical session.
    • Learners need to be computer literate to be able to do the online
    • course.
  • Option Three: STANDARD OPTION ONE (Face to Face Only)

    • It takes one day (approximately 8.5 hours) with a bigger
    • assessment to be completed on the day of the course plus
    • pre-reading. The theory assessment is completed online in class
    • face to face with the trainer on the day of the training via
    • either a tablet, laptop or phone.
  • Option Four: STANDARD OPTION TWO (Face to Face Only)

    • No online required. It takes one day (approximately 8.5
    • hours) with a bigger assessment to be completed on the day of the
    • course plus pre-reading. The theory assessment is completed on the
    • student guide face to face with the trainer on the day of the
    • training. This Unit of competency is nationally accredited,
    • recognised and workplace accepted.

Same statement of attainment is gained from any of the four delivery options above.

Usual Venues for Training:

All training at Smartlink is supported with current teaching aids to ensure that learners receive the highest quality theoretical and practical training sessions. Examples of equipment used include: Bandages, Manuals, PowerPoint presentation, Inhalers, EpiPen, Neffy, CPR manikins, Defibrillators, up to date and visually appealing Power Point presentations etc.
The theory segment covers topics such as: Legal aspects of First aid, Victim evaluation, Breathing and pulse, Resuscitation, Shock, Asthma, Fainting, Anaphylaxis, Heart and medical illnesses, Stroke, Choking, Drowning, Hyperventilation, Trauma, Burns & Heat stroke, Heat exhaustion, Bites &Stings, Poisoning, Signs of life, Aftercare etc.
Learners participate in practical exercises that include CPR/Resuscitation, Defibrillation, Choking, Bandaging, making splints and slings, Strains & Sprains, Nosebleeds, micro learning sessions/scenarios, using inhalers, Epipen/Anapens/Neffy etc.
Upon successful completion of the course participants will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment(Certificate) in Provide First Aid HLTAID011 valid for 3 years. The CPR portion is valid for 12 months.
